totally inspired by
and
been hanging out at sean and katy's place with their totally sweet dog buzby while they are out of town this weekend. it's been super relaxing to lay around with the dog and look at photo books and listen to music. nice escape from our crazy house. especially now that a ghost has decided to show it's face in the upstairs hallway. here's some stuff from the weekend.

met some interesting people at the delta. heading back out tomorrow to hang out again. i'm stoked on the aging project. and stoked to be working on it out in the delta. nice change of pace from the city.
a bunch of us headed to stockton to cheer ariel and her Port City Roller Girls on at their match against Bakersfield. if you've never seen roller derby, GO! i've never seen anything like it.

giovanni tried his hand at the super wide lens
and drunk adam only added to my on-going collection of pictures i have of my feet and the people and things on the ground.

exhausted
the last few days have been pretty crazy. i'm somewhere between the world of no sleep and total exhaustion. some pictures from the last week-ish.
mancini gets his grump on while waiting for our food at tu lan
amy and brian reach the end of their rope while finishing up their uber cheese multimedia for a non-profit
darcy and brian in noe valley

we had a benefit last night for our photo workshop at the mexican consulate in SOMA. went to a bar after and then apparently to a strip club. everything after the rounds and rounds of tequila at kelly o'briens is a blur.

Goodbye Portland

The Eich's are my favorite pregnant husband and wife of all time. Got to know a lot of people this week that I had heard so much about but had either never met or only hung out with briefly. I had an awesome trip. As much as it always breaks my heart to leave this beautiful city, I'm ready to get home to SF and make some pictures.
Highlights: steaks at the strip club in the middle of the afternoon, Sol's iPhone, Balkan food at Two Brother's Cafe, water balloons and the kiddie pool, seeing Hot Fuzz for $2.50 and walking a whole hell of a lot all over SE Portland.

i've forgotten my camera all day. i've left homes without it... wishing i had brought it with me rather then leaving it safe and tucked away with the rest of my belongings.
i think it was a good thing. i found, met, and got to know more people tonight then i would have ever gotten to know if i had my camera. so, maybe that was a good thing. definitely a good thing. had a lot of interesting conversations with people at a house party... a jon house party. i have yet to meet many portland natives. there's a lot of transplants up here. met a guy at soul night who lives a block away from me back home in SF. funny how things like that happen.
(((from thursday)))
...in Portland!!! Been here not even 24 hours and we've already had a water balloon fight, got my thumb severely burned by a sparkler, ate 7 dollar steaks at a strip club, drank too much Pabst, played with Sol's new iPHONE!!!!! (highlight of the trip for sure) and saw Matt Eich -- Mr. CPOY himself -- get pseuduo-molested by a stripper (who wants to go to grad school for neurological studies).
As always, too much fun in PDX. Pictures to come.. sometime...
Also, Motoya Nakamura is the funniest guy ever.

more from downtown
Spent a few hours yesterday afternoon in the Financial District. I think this take is my favorite so far. Found some color. Played with light in some different ways. I've been looking at a lot of street photography on Flickr as of late. Channeled some of that inspiration. Woke up at 5am this morning and headed down there to make some shots with morning light. and whadaya know. FOG. always. boo to that.

you know who would make great friends?
...a photojournalist and a storyteller from the radio. radio tells stories that create pictures in our minds. vivid language and descriptive characters guide us through stories that are compelling and engage listeners. stories constantly raise questions and we can answer those questions with actions or events or moments of reflection.
i spent the last 20 minutes or so watching clips on you tube of ira glass talking about storytelling. just search his name and the clips pop up, in several parts. as i was listening, i tried replacing words like radio or listener with words like pictures and viewers. the storytelling rules applied just the same.
i've been couped up in the house all day listening to old This American Life broadcasts and looking at pictures online and in books, getting inspired on this really crappy overcast day.
